Diamond Jewelry and the Emmys
There is a part of me that is very upset that there was almost no important jewelry worn to the Emmys last night, and on the other hand I am thrilled. Let me explain..................
It has always bothered me that celebrities today do not own their own jewelry and need to borrow dresses, shoes and even bags to go to any event. After looking at the Liz Taylor jewelry collection that will be auctioned off by Christies, I realized how the era when celebrities owned their own jewelry is a thing of the past. It is such a pity. I find such pleasure in owning and wearing things that I either was gifted or even bought for myself. There is such a wonderful feeling to know that it is yours to come back to again and again.
To wear something once and then have to return it to its rightful owner is just pitiful. For all of these events in Hollywood, the jewelers throng to LA and set up suites and even pay celebrities to wear their jewelry. Well, I don't know what happened this year, but there was almost no jewelry seen on the red carpet. It never makes me happy to see no jewelry worn because I think a beautiful dress without a gorgeous pair of diamond earrings is like getting all dressed up and putting on no makeup. What would have made me smile was when asked "whose earrings are you wearing" the response would have been "mine". That would be my goal. Get the celebrities to "buy" jewelry, not borrow. So, since there was not a lot of borrowing last night, maybe we are moving in the right direction. If all the jewelers would set their sights on selling jewelry to the celebrities for the next big event, that would be fantastic.
But, who am I kidding? There will still be big name clothing designers and big brand jewelers knocking on the doors of even minor celebrities to loan them their wares. Anything for a mention in People magazine......................
Here is just an idea of what I would have worn to the Emmys, these amazing Ashoka city hoop earrings!!!!
